Installing the InDesign extension
For customers that have purchased the integration, the HIVO InDesign extension can be downloaded and installed via the Adobe Exchange accessible here: https://exchange.adobe.com/apps/cc/90471247/hivo-connector-for-adobe-indesign
Extension Installation instructions:
Open Adobe InDesign on your computer.
Navigate to the Extensions menu from within InDesign to open the Adobe Exchange, or navigate straight to the listing page on the Adobe Exchange here: https://exchange.adobe.com/apps/cc/90471247/hivo-connector-for-adobe-indesign
Search for the HIVO extension. Click the Free button on the Adobe exchange to install and follow the prompts to complete the installation:
Open the HIVO Extension in InDesign
In InDesign, go to the Window menu.
Select Extensions. Click on HIVO to open the HIVO extension panel:
Login to HIVO via your InDesign extension
In the HIVO extension ‘Login’ tab, enter your HIVO credentials (username and password):
Or if you have purchased Single Sign On, you can login using the passwordless login option. Note: If you choose to login via the password option, you will be prompted to enter the email addresses linked to your HIVO account that has a purchased HIVO InDesign connector:
Browsing and searching HIVO assets in InDesign
The HIVO Adobe InDesign plugin offers a streamlined search function, allowing users to locate media assets stored in their HIVO library directly from within the InDesign interface.
Users can browse HIVO files that they have permission to access by clicking on the Assets tab within the InDesign connector. Use the search bar or navigate through tag searches of individual assets or browse folders that exist in your HVO library to find the asset you want to use in your InDesign project:
Importing and swapping HIVO asset versions in InDesign
Assets can be imported into an InDesign project from the HIVO library without leaving the InDesign interface. Simply find the assets you are looking for and then select the asset version you would like to import. The asset will then appear and be useable in your project:
Asset versions can easily switched out making it seamless to keep your InDesign project file light weight by using low-res versions and then swapping to high-res versions when you are ready to export or go to print for example. Just click on the image that you have imported and then click on the new version you want to use and the connector will swap the versions for you.
Asset permissions in InDesign Plugin
User permissions are mirrored with how they exist in HIVO within the InDesign plug-in. That means when a users logs into the InDesign Extension via their HIVO user account login they will have whatever permission exists on an individual asset in HIVO, ensuring that users are only ever able to view and use the content that they have access to:
How to Relink HIVO assets in InDesign
HIVO assets exist as a linked HIVO url within InDesign, as opposed to the asset being stored on your desktop. To Relink a HIVO asset to InDesign, click the Relink button in the Document tab:
Exporting and uploading assets from InDesign extension into HIVO Library
The HIVO Adobe InDesign plugin provides a convenient way to export new assets directly into to their HIVO library via the Export tab within the InDesgin extension. Simply click the Export tab and then 'Export as New Asset', choose the folder location in your HIVO library and then click 'Export as New Asset' again:
